#166804 - hw revisions Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I try to make the hardware capable of informing the microprocessor about the current hardware revision.
That can allow a firmware to auto-detect and use alternative routines in case a hardware revision has swapped pins, changed measurement ranges etc. The PCB revision in written in one of the layers. A label is put on the board, with a serial number, production week and hw revision. The hw revision on the label or the a lookup of the serial number in a production database can then be used to point at the correct Bill of Materials (BOM). In some situations, the serial number is either written into a EEPROM or maybe computed from the MAC address or the IMEI number of an attached GSM module. |
