#166511 - Too great difference between hw and sw scopes Responding to: ???'s previous message |

Yeah I just sold my BitScope. Good riddance. Hated it. And it was all about the software interface. The hardware was nice, but the software made it unusable. If I were into software scopes, I would make sure that the sw developers had access to some of the truly great hardware scopes and spent a couple of weeks using them to solve practical problems. Possibly having them sit beside some hw engineers. When the prototype GUI is ready, they should then be requested to compete with the hw engineers. They will lose greatly, but will realize that that usability isn't just how the GUI looks, but that important functions must be instantly available. Then they should be sent back to design a new prototype. The lack of real knobs and buttons will of course not make it possible to match real hw scopes, but some of the experiences from 50+ years of evolution of hw scopes should be possible to take care of. With the lousy GUI there are to many of the sw scopes, I would think that a sw scope manufacturer that designs a really good GUI and merges it with a decent hardware would be able to take a lot of market shares. |
