#161478 - Not relevant here - beyond the spec!

Its EIA- 232 D&E standard

But that isn't actually relevant here:

Foreword to TIA/EIA-232-F said:
As with previous version of EIS/TIA-232, TIA/EIA-232-F provides operation to a maximum data signalling rate of 20 kbit/s.

If you look carefully at the Datasheets for modern so-called "RS232" transceivers, you will see that they all make some sort of reference to performing beyond the limits of the formal "RS232" specification - and the key areas in which they exceed the spec are usually transmission speed and load capacitance.

eg, see: http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes....number/882

See alos: http://www.national.com/an/AN/AN-216.pdf

Therefore, again, the OP needs to look at the Datasheets for some modern, high-speed "RS232" transceivers...

Unfortunately, the EIA/TIA is one of the few remaining standards organisations that beleives that you should pay for the ptivilege of reading their standards.
IMO, this is a major contributing factor to all the confusion surrounding RS232...

   I would use RS485 instead            01/01/70 00:00
      it would be easier ..            01/01/70 00:00
