Historically that isn't true, and I doubt it is now either. GCC will be the most current, simply because of its open source development process.
...and the best supported by examples on the web. If you Google for an answer to some particular problem, you're a lot more likely to find an example that uses Visual Studio than one that uses Delphi.

No, I'll lay odds you'll find more examples on GCC than Visual C++. As it is, as a Delphi programmer, I have never had a single problem finding a code sample if I've needed one.
There are lots of signs, some subtle and some otherwise, that this is the way things are headed.

We are heading in the opposite direction, to ensure we have full control of our instrument software, and escape lock-in.
