Same goes for ISA, EISA, etc... They were fun and interesting at the time (ISA and EISA, not LPT), but I am not sorry I don't "interface" with them anymore. They are as useful as that 8255 we all love talking about. ;-) ... and it's inherently capable of being fast enough ... Under Windows, however, the OS ignores some of the interrupts for minutes at a time ... I can't rely on it to operate at the right time ... Yes, the LPT is one of those things we all love to hate ... If anything short of custom hardware would work as well, and as reliably, I'd probably try to use it. In the meantime, I'm really glad I can still move data between the old DOS machines with their parallel ports, and do so at a reasonable rate comaptible with real-world processes. RE |
