Rob,
What I'm looking at is the Goler Formation out in the El Paso Mountains in the N.W. Mojave-California. There the Ancient River (Goler Formation) which flowed from the Sierra Nevada Range (next one over)where the bedrock goes from 200' and uplifts to surface. After doing a Mag. survey and determining the location of the highest readings (black sand and heavies) was to find out the angle at which the bedrock is tilted to see what I would be looking at taking heavy equipment in (D9 or whatever). Sounds like fun! I suspected you were working on something a bit larger scale. I'm not real familiar with the Goler. The only time I ended up in Socal it was with our dept. sedimentologist, and we ended up looking at her pet lithified sand dunes and the "bath tub ring" left by the proto gulf rifting. (and I forgot to bring some knitting needles...) That was actually a pretty bad trip for me. I somehow forgot to bring a hat, which in Norcal isn't too big a deal, you can grunt thru a couple days. Day 2 down there I ended up in a dry stream bed outside of Parker, Az around 11am. The last temp reading I saw was 112 deg/F (44.5 deg/C) more than an hour earlier. The prof was lecturing, but to this day, I couldn't tell you what she said. Pretty much fried my brain... When we got back to the trucks, I dumped a bunch of cooler melt water over my head. It took the rest of the afternoon for me to recover. :-) Randall Seden said:
Very interesting you should mention the gravimeter,I have this video from A.M. Productions (Canada) called "How to Develop a placer prospect into a mine" with David Genn and he was saying that he recently started using one and found it to be quicker and easier than doing seismic shots. That said I'd have to rent one as you know they're very expensive. So much for a simple 8052 project. Thanks to all who contributed. Randy Seden Simi Valley,Ca. Have you asked around over at CSU Pomona? They don't have a graduate program, so I don't know if they'll have that kind of equipment, but it might not hurt to ask. I'm not sure what kind of site security you've implemented. If you already have a mining claim, having someone publish a senior thesis might not be that big a deal. I used to know the guy that did grav. work at the USGS up in Menlo Park. He's still in the USGS phone book. He's one of those "turned over every rock in the western US" types. He may have an unpublished map or incomplete data set for the area. Send me an email. Rob |
