#139398 - the problem is...

Last time I bought SRAM, needing about 2Kx8, I had to buy 32Kx8, which cost about $0.40US for an 8 ns part, but which weren't available in a smaller configuration.

at $0.40 what's the problem? a wild guess would be that a 2k part would cost $0.39

The problem is, that the 2k part does not cost $0.39, but an arm and a leg (if you want it "known good" and not "known pullout"). Also, the problem is the different pinout (OK, as somebody above said, it's not THAT different, but different enough for the headscratching).
Of course this does not matter for a new design, but if you have two dozens of boards you want to keep running...

PS anybody knows where to get decent 68B45s? :-)
