#131422 - Ah, a Skoda... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
... a S120 was my first car. I bought it second-(actually third- or fourth-)hand, and drove it until it grew adult (18-years old).
Yeah, maintainability...was not a virtue, but a must. A story: back in 80s one could not get spare parts too easily (as anything else except the very basic stuff, food and similar). My father had a similar car and the vessel containing the fuel filter broke. He was looking at the car in the garage rather sad (with me, being around 12 at that time), when his neghbour came around and told him to replaci it by a standard 50ml glass used in pubs for the spirits. It fit and served there for 10 more years. They said, it was not a coincidence. All that said, we in Czechoslovakia were lucky that in the 70-80s we did not need to wait for a new car for years... at least not for the Skodas. Jan Waclawek PS. Did you know that "skoda" means "harm, damage" in Czech/Slovak? |
