#130304 - Why bother ... it's still avaiable ... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Other posts have shown where you can get the executable software. It still works, and probably as well as anything available in other forms. Why would you want the source for the 1978 version from MMI, which has none of the "interesting" devices of the '90's in its repertoire, when you can get the latest version at no cost? It was always freeware, requiring no licensing.
So far, I've found nothing that does a better job at facilitating the creation of SPLD-based logic. For small CPLD's, e.g. those having 32 or 64 macrocells, or perhaps even 128 or thereabouts, I doubt there's a better tool for specifying the logic. Later tools have, in some cases, made compromises that don't fully utilize the capabilities of these small devices. PALASM allows their full exploitation. If you haven't actually worked with it, I'd strongly recommend you get a copy, install it in a solid, non-Windows (DOS-only)environment, and find out what it will do for you. You'll be amazed! Back in those days, they actually wrote useful software that worked! (Ignore the "extended" executables. Those never did work properly, as they preceded standardization of how extended memory was to be allocated.) RE |
