we are going to loose (SIC!!!) lots of synopsis licences in the new year, the finance director is very keen on saving half a million quid a year, we have an arrangement with a company in ireland which is probably completely against the terms of any licencing arrangement they have but they are happy to lease us any extra synopsis seats we need as and when the need arises. The CEO and finance director both say that if anyone has a problem with that they can sue us. This oughta be an interesting lawsuit. I know that Mentor's license agreement stipulates that workstations allowed to use the software have to be located within some small geographical area ("campus wide"). Seems to me that this restriction is unenforceable (but IANAL), given that with VPNs and such the license server has no way of knowing where the workstations reside. I see no reason why a company can't maximize license usage. I don't know if the license agreements include verbage like "only employees of Company S may use The Software. Subcontractors may not." Let us know how the lawsuit works out. -a |
