#124180 - RS485 and DE, \RE
Hello,

In many RS485 implementations, the \RE (Receiver enable, active low) is grounded and the DE (Driver Enable) pin is controlled by the microcontroller, in other implementations both the pins are controlled by the microcontroller, which is a better method?

I thought by grounding the \RE pin, all the nodes when powered up will always start with the Receiver enabled, and avoid bus contention, but while transmitting a character the same is received by the RS485 device, (and echos on the screen), is there a method to purge the Receive buffer in the UART or is this a inferior way of implementing RS485.

Any information on this subject will be highly appreciated.

Regards,
John.
