Those French designers thought that they were entitled to a job for life, despite the fact they didn't know what they were doing. Maybe that's how it is in France.
Did you not hear about the riots that broke out when it was proposed making it possible to fire employees below (was it) 26 years of age. The rule is that you get a job by the premise of supposedly having engineered the course project you completed by copying it off the internet and, when the employer find out that you have no idea of what is front and back of a resistor, he can not fire you.
