Find one of the older classic books on this subject, they do explain it in detail. For example M.E. Valkenburg's "Network Analysis" or Herman and Lyttle's "Electrical and Mechanical Networks", or Horowitz and Hill's "Art of Electronics".

Van Valkenberg was our set book, together with "Carter and Richardson" - who were lecturers at our university, funnily enough.

AofE though doesn't have much in the way of quantitive analysis - their approach is much more hands-on.
