Notice how the subject has been changed from what I asked about to what Erik does, or doesn't do?

It's not unpleasant conversation, but, like telling me how to build a watch, when I wanted to know the time of day ... it won't answer my initial question.

Has anybody ever bothered to write a test sequence for the HD44780 that actually verifies that it all works?
