C is particularly bad in this respect as it is such a poorly typed language. In control systems where the precise values can mean life or death I have no hesitation in pointing out the serious shortcomings of C. Not only that, this particular example illustrates just how easy it is not to think about the problem before coding it.

In assembler you cannot avoid thinking about the problem in depth. That's recommendation enough for me.
