I know for a fact that there were many circuits just like this in use when I started in the UK
in my first job the ICs were PCBs using 2N404 (discussed a bit here http://www.ck722museum.com/history/r..._Index.htm ). We used a negative voltage for the base to "low" resistor, and a resitor in series with the diodes to handle the "[diode drop] = [base emitter voltage]" problem. Erik |
