In our applications (balancing) we have used LVDT's and strain gauge based load cells for both static and dynamic measurements.
Technically an LVDT in a proving ring or force ring IS a load cell. Both of these techniques are most definately temperature sensitive. High quality strain gauges have temperature compensation built-in for the material they are bonded to (aluminum or steel most common) drift is still always a problem. Weight scales usually have auto-zeroing schemes built in. There is another technique I have heard about but have never seen availible: Measurement of the change in quartz crystal resonance due to strain applied to the directly to the crytal itself. Big advantage would be all digital, no analog electronics involved !!. |
