#176071 - So do I...

I insist on zero (OK +-0.2% or so). The reason being that, while some total leeway is allowable (+-2%?) for the transmission who knows if "the other end is "on the nose".

So do I. It should nearly always be possible to tune the baud rate close enough by using an appropriate crystal.

But way more important than taking the right baud rate is to be able to detect transmission errors. So, allthough being aware that this is a rather weak meaure, I always do the parity check and take unused bits for a plausibility check.

The best way to avoid data transmission errors is to use the good old RS422 or RS485, though.
