The way to help them is to direct them to a source for that datasheet. I have many data books dating back to the '70's for the very reason that many of these data have never been available on the www. In some cases it's just not practical, but even if one has to scan a datasheet, it's possible to get useful work from a 30-year-old component. It's not easy to do without the datasheet, though.

That's much more help than telling him to use something he can't get or can't afford, when he has something on hand that will work once he knows how to use it.
