I completely agree and understand what you're saying. In this application, having the brief power blip you describe is of little consequence as I am not driving a motor starter or hydraulic solenoid. I am actually just driving an electromagnet and using PWM to reduce the strength of the magnet as needed. The magnet is run at full strength most of the time, thus my choice to use a normally closed circuit. PWM is only used when needed to reduce the strength of the magnet.
