OK, now I've seen it - and I definitely think that is a Really Bad Idea!!

Just look at the warning in the corner of the schematic:

That is precisely why it's a Really Bad Idea!!

It might be acceptable to connect a microcontroller directly to the live mains when it is part of some live-mains equipment which has its own protection to prevent user contact - but this thing has live pushbuttons which the user is expected to touch!!
