I'm sorry, it is a very common British idiom; if one says, "I think that's a bad idea" it just means, "I don't think that is a good thing to do" or "I don't think that is a good approach" or "I don't think that is a good way to proceed", etc.

If you wanted specific comments on specific documents, you should have cited them in the first place.

As it stands, I still say that directly connecting anything to the live mains sounds like a bad thing to do!

Connecting anything directly to the live mains is potentially very dangerous indeed!

The problem is not so much with "normal" operation - but in ensuring that the system remains safe under all fault and misuse conditions.
Blowing up the microcontroller is not the big issue - killing people is!
