#173258 - state of SDCC for 8051 |
Does anyone here use SDCC?
I'm a Keil guy and I bought a license for C51 ages ago (I'm on 7.0x and uVision2). Since I use SiLabs parts and the compiler really hasn't changed, I've never bothered to upgrade. We are working with a partner group and my counterpart is capable of making changes to code and feeding said changes back. However, he doesn't have a Keil license and it doesn't make much sense for him to buy one for some occasional use. So for this reason SDCC is attractive. The last time I looked, the syntax for the special stuff differ between the two compilers, but that's easily dealt with by declaring that all new stuff targets SDCC and old stuff gets ported only as needed. Also it can be built for Linux and OS X, which we like. But is SDCC really ready for prime time on 8051? -a |
