I wonder if GE deliberately changed it for their implementation?
Maybe they thought having "algorithmic" in the name would be better for selling it to their target audience - maybe Algol users...?

Maybe they just wanted to emphasise that it wasn't exactly the same as the Dartmouth College version?

Nowadays, of course, things called "BASIC" bear very little resemblance to the original Dartmouth BASIC...!

Everyone else, of course, denied that they used it.

Even today, I think there is a certain snobbery that BASIC isn't a "Real" language for "Real Programmers" doing "Real Projects"

Probably due to its origins as a school language, and the fact that the 'B' stands for "Beginners"...?
