Simple answer: If you want to keep down the complexity of your project, you should think twice about the USB interface. Maybe looking at SPI-connected memory, or CF memory. There are projects available where people have implemented a HDD interface for the 8051, for use as data loggers. The CF memory has an almost identical interface as an IDE (PATA) HDD, based on the old ISA (286 PC/AT) bus.
An alternative is to carefully select an ARM chip that you know have a good USB reference implementation from the chip vendor. |
