What, exactly, are you trying to protect? Embedded Network kits. What, exactly, are you trying to detect? To protect the kits and or electronics box(ready made) from replace(steal). What, exactly, do you mean by, "low cost" ? Means low budgets and available to built locally.. What do you see as the disadvantage(s) of the Reed Switch to your particular application(s)? Maybe the debounce signal(but fixed) with program. What research have you done already? I'm testing just simple...shake the magnet(with spring) and reed switch...and with Multimeter.
