#179888 - 3phase , Star Delta Etc Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Dear Kiran,
When it comes to AC mains I guess the number phases and the operating mode of the motor also need attaention. For instance I recently managed the situation where I had to run a 690V / 3Ph / Star connected motor by running it in Delta mode which is 400V. Of course in my case I had the flexibility to operate the motor in either mode and the name plate mentioned "Delta / 400V +/- 5% " and so I was within spec. But generally when none of the tricks like above work, one option is to either step up or step down the mains voltage to suit with Auto transformers. Here again commercials will come into play - is it a one off or a regular affair etc. But many a times I also used to wonder about the plethora of voltages that exist all over the place. Whatever happened to those committees like IEEE , IEC etc ? Why cant someone standardize this vital aspect of voltage levels ?? Or maybe its a commercial decision NOT to standardize ?? Who knows...
