#177403 - General context of switcher chips? Responding to: ???'s previous message |

In the context of this MC34063A regulator part the Ipk value is not going to be just 90mA. Ipk is the peak current that the switching transistor in the chip can handle and is limited to 1.5A maximum. I think it is general that the headline current quoted for SMPS chips is the maximum peak current for the switch element - which is not at all the same thing is the output current to the load! So, if the headline says, "1.5A switcher" that does not (necessarily) mean that it can be used to make a PSU to deliver 1.5A to a load! Especially when operating the chip at extremes of its input and/or output ranges... |
