#175898 - RE: Moving target

The Microsoft tools just seem to be an ever moving target.

I think that's equally true of their paid-for and free stuff?!

The Express tools don't all let you build a distributable executable that runs as a standalone program.

Don't they?
Oh well - it's not been a problem for me! <smug>

The Express tools appear easy to use, but when you get serious you realise you've been sucked into the swamp.

They've been good enough for as "serious" as I ever like to get with PC stuff!

That's utilities for development support, testing, configuration, etc of the Real Embedded stuff...

Most recently, I've done an HTTP server and GUI in VC# express for use with some remote monitoring stuff I'm developing.

I have a paid-for Visual Studio 2003, and have tried the express 2005 (and later) - and didn't find any limitations to the kind of stuff that I do.
