The cross-sectional area is really only to do with electrical ratings.

If he wants special mechanical ratings, then different types of sheathing, armour, etc are available.

Don't forget that doubling the CSA will also make the cable much heavier - bringing a whole load of other issues...

But I feel that my selection is adequate.

I think you're probably right!
