The current-limit is VERY useful. What's not included in every supply, however, is an indicator on where the current limit is set, along with one showing current consumption in real time. That's another panel meter and, if you have three outputs, as is typical for serious bench supplies, (though a lot of 'em are single-output types) then that can increase the circuit complexity and therefore the cost. Even just the extra three panel meters can cost quite a bit. That's why some supplies switch the voltage/current-limit indicators. Of course you also want an indicator that let you know you've overloaded the supply.
Foldback current limiting is a useful feature, too, as it helps you to troubleshoot, as it prevents damage to components when the supply is overloaded. RE |
