#169049 - Have you shipped anything lately? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I suspect that the cost of shipping a bench supply would be prohibitive. Building and packaging a voltage and current regulated circuit on the order of the bench supplies I am accustomed to using would be a challenge for anyone. It might be cheaper for him to tackle that problem than to ship a supply from Oregon to Brazil and back again.
Using a low-cost regulator would not necessarily be the best way to build one, either, but, with, say, three outputs, one capable of operating in a dual-tracking mode, or not, selectively, producing +/- 20 volts with limiting up to 400 mA, and one capable of providing, simply, a single-ended switchable and minutely adjustable 3V0, 3V3, and 5V0, at, say, 3 A, would be a really good exercise. When he's finished, he'll have learned about packaging, instrumentation (panel meters), switches, foldback-current-limiting, pass transistors, crowbars, etc. He'll have a supply that will serve him for, possibly, the rest of his life. He'll never have to worry about the power supply again, as he'll have a reference supply that he can use whenever he needs, allowing him to proceed with other efforts until he decides on a supply for them. He can then build the supply last, when he knows more about what he really needs, rather than first, and fixing it later. It's not ideal, but it's worth considering. What does your bench supply weigh? Is it compatible with mains power as provided in Brazil? RE |
