I do believe I once read that the choice of colors had to do with the cost of the colored insulation, and not with its definition.
Back when my house was built, the "standard" was that Black (or near-black) was "hot" and white (or off-white, which was MUCH more common than true white) was all that was used. Nobody had thought of using a protective ground, which clearly would have been better. Being color-blind, I found this of particular interest. RE |
