#161829 - That would likely work

Yes, quite a lot of nice things can be made with rotating mirrors. And with a facetted rotating mirror, there will be no time lost in any "retrace" of the light beam.

But most things in this world is relative. I would think that a speaker is intended for continuous operation at higher speeds than the voice coil assembly of a HDD. And if the loudspeaker has a very stiff cone, then it might be possible to make holes in the cone to make the loudspeaker more silent and easier to drive while still giving an acceptable control of the mirror turn angle.

What I'd envisioned was using the voice coil to position the mirror controlling the slower of the two axes, whichever that is, and using the spinning mirror to produce the image on the other axis. That way he can modulate the signal driving the laser to produce a "pixel" wherever he wants on that sweep. He doesn't have to do things that way, and, as with any tradeoff, there's a price to pay, namely in the requirement for a really bright laser if he wishes to sweep across a fairly large area, e.g. a wall of his room.

I'm more interested in broadening Chico's thinking than in advocating one method or another of solving his problem.
