#158680 - ARM in an 8051 footprint
(This is a continuation of Raghunathan's thread on the main message board)

Would it be useful to have a 5V ARM in an 8051 footprint?

We have been looking into wrapping a 5V shell with 8051-type IO around a ARM, and perhaps a PLL on the clock to boost speed. We could even have an interpreter that would run 8051 code.

The idea is to have a half-way step between 8051s and ARMs. You could keep the hardware while changing the software and boosting the performance.
