Dividing the frequency using harmonics would yield better result but the circuit would also become more complex. Esko, sorry, but I don't have the foggiest idea what you mean! There's no need for any filtering. The clock chips need periodically arriving edges at the clock input. The waveform, in particular the duty cycle doesn't play any role.
