"1. I can put an N-bit (4096?) counter on the oscillator"
No problem as long as the oscillator starts. One nice feature I like to see in a reset circuit is the missing clock detector. I thought I forgot to mention this in my "reset" document - but YES it's there, although under "watchdog-alike features", 2.4. I faintly recalled I've seen this in some '51 - a quick browse to the zillions of datasheets I have here - bingo, the DS89C4x0-s do have it. Jack Peacock said:
"3. configuration bit set the polarity"
Not terribly useful. Most ICs use an active low for the external reset, and supervisor ICs usually have an open collector low reset output. As "most ICs use an active low reset polarity", this comes to be an issue when the reset functions also as an OUTPUT, which IMHO is one of the MUST HAVE features. JW |
