A common thing I find in datasheets is, that the internal reset threshold is below the specified operational voltage range.

Such reset I see as unusable. See the DS89C4x0 datasheet - they are one of the rare who are very honest in this.

Just a remark, the Dallas datasheets are really hard to read, quite messy and disordered - but on the other hand, they provide such a level of details (of which all are needed by some of the developers at one point), that many other '51 producers fail to provide or omit deliberately; and they are not shy to admit their defficiencies and failures. I appreciate this approach, much more than a colour logo of the company at the very first page (yes, I am talking about NXP all the time).
