#136277 - A little everywhere Responding to: ???'s previous message |

I too live outside the city in the boonies and where I live I can pump then pay, when I pull up they look out the window and wave. When I have filled up and go into the store, they say "hey Erik". If a 'stranger' can pump then pay there I do not know. I think it just depends on each specific business. I live in a big (enough) city. Yesterday I went to get a haircut at a place where I had never gone before. I didn't realize they didn't accept credit/debit cards until I was ready to pay and I didn't have enough cash on-hand. So I told the guy that I'd have to go to the ATM to get some cash, and I started taking out my driver's license to leave with him as collateral so he'd know I'd be coming back. He just waived his hands and said, "Not necessary, don't worry about leaving your license." So I just left, went to the ATM, and came back and paid. I could have just as easily stiffed him and gotten a free haircut. There are trusting people everywhere. Being out in the boonies does make it easier to trust people, though, since you know them.
