Is there max number of COM ports that windows can deal with? Erik Malund said:
I do not know for sure but believe the max is 255.
I, on my PC, have 11 so I can vouch for that number being possible. I don't know what the actual limit is, either - though I seem to have some vague recollection of hearing that it's actually >255... Anyhow, I have up to COM18: at the moment... had a lot of fun with that one, about a dozen people were mystified till someone realized "this driver can not co beyond COM9". That's not fun - that's mindless stupidity on the part of the developer! Although it's all too common, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to impose any such arbitrary limitation. This is just pure laziness on the part of someone who couldn't be bothered to do it properly! Follow the well-worn rant here: http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=128508 |
