Yes, you're right, Andy, but if the spell-checker coughed every time there was a misspelled word, it would encourage one to take a second look at the message before hitting. Trouble is, it'd need to be a specialised (or specialized?) checker so that it didn't keep giving false-negatives on the technical terms, etc, that so often defeat generalist checkers. Maybe if the system posted only after one hit 'Preview' That is a very good idea. Keil recently adopted this policy on their forum, but it's still obvious that people don't pay attention to the preview. :-( http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=126428 and then retyped the entire post, ... well, that would be too time-consuming for some Probably counterproductive - if you had to re-type the whole thing, you'd probably make a different set of typos! I'm concerned that some people who are not only learning 805x hardware/programming, but are also learning poor English grammar/syntax/orthography at the same time are being done a disservice. Quite so. ...I don't think it would be entirely bad to ask, "Do you really want to put your name at the bottom of this?" People should beware of this - it has, apparently, been known for potential employers to check out job applicants by seeing what they post online. If your CV (resume) proclaims, "Excellent communication skills", but your online posts are illiterate babbling, what will the potential employer think...? |
