#130119 - Santa did not bring me ... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
... a drill press, or a milling machine, or Greenlee punches, or any of that stuff.
I also need a bit of space to set up a drill press. Funny thing is that a reasonable drill press, suitable for working small boxes and front panels, is cheaper than having a small quantity of enclosures built from a print! I can solder TQFPs with pins on 50-mil centers but I can't cut a clean rectangular hole with a nibbler. If you look carefully at the box around the LCD, you can see the lines I drew on it as guides. I put some scotch tape on the box and drew the lines on the tape, thinking it would be the easiest way to do the lines cleanly. Now I can't get the tape off. The IR receiver is Tak-Pak-ed to the inside of the box with the business end poking through a hole. Can't get much more hack-ish than that. And I'm the first to admit that my wiring is pretty ugly, but that's what enclosures are for! I'm learning to use the gEDA schematic and PCB tools and my first design with them will be a proper PCB for this little volume control. As it stands now, though, it's good enough for Makezine.com. -a |
