#124582 - Use the Source Luke
Responding to: ???'s previous message

Don't forget though, that open source differs in one key respect from closed source software - you have direct access to the author. If poor/lack of documentation is a barrier to you using that application then contact the author and tell him what is needed. Open source authors welcome feedback; it's part of the community thing.

I would change this to: You have direct access to the source code. If poor/lack of documentation is a barrier to you using that application then look in the sources how it works.

Of course active open source authors welcome feedback and it is part of the community thing. But if I dump my development on the internet and never look back again it still is open source but there will be no community thing from my side.

Not that this is my intention with my SDCC developments right now, but someday I may retire my involvement and can only hope someone else will pick up where I left just as I picked up where others left.
