The installation worked perfectly for me. No error message. And I cannot see any source of confusion! Just the opposite! See Subj. The fact that there was an error message is OK (as I did not unzip the whole zip of the update, just the exefile) but the content is messy, not descriptive enough. However, the initial installator was a single exe file, why isn't the update the same. And is it not confusing that you need to run the update installator 7 times to get the new chips working? Why would anybody install only 1 of the new chips? Meantime, more complaints from me: - I have no cable -> I cannot try even the non-ISP-related features (open and view file - "demo mode") - 3 LPT ports only (and this is in the newer version only - OK this sounds maybe strange, but we already use 3 ports on our "reference programming" PC in the company, so I would add a 4th card for this) and does not detect the actual nr of ports in the PC - the radiobutton for page mode/byte mode, confusing for the newbie, why should he select this at all (should be hidden in some "advanced" perhaps, with good description) - why "initialize target", this is a strange name for this function (and I don't see it's point at all) Kai Klaas said:
But the problems arise when the newbie tries to save costs, refuses to buy the original Atmel's "ISP cable" and toys arround with a messy alternative recommended by some idiot in the web. Again and again, it is NOT ONLY the cost - although that plays a role, too. And, the cable alone is not a panacea. Please, have a look at my initial posts and try to address e.g. the problem with oscillator - again, you are a professional and your clock WILL be ticking or you know what to do if it does not; but the newbie will stick things together and there is no guarantee for the clock to tick.
