#116834 - empty tanks are not empty Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Steve: Not true An empty tank has a near perfectly explosive mix in it. Gasoline vapour is heavier than air. It also expands and contracts more with temperature change. This results in venting fuel air mix during the hot part of the day and drawing air in at night until the remaining mix can no longer pump the vent open during the cool part of the cycle.
The resulting stable condition is one that contains a pretty close to optimum fuel air ratio for rapid combustion. I know that the pump motors are sealed and the connections are welded but as older cars get worked on by amature mechanics I can see some one replacing the in tank fuel pump with one from a different car. The connector isnt the same - well just strip the wires and twist them together just like speaker wires. There now a little tape and we are good to go. Terry |
