#116766 - Electicity & fuel Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Rustu, Your concerns of electricity and fuel are unfounded. Petrol by itself cannot combust as there has to be air in the right quantity available. This is around 14.7 : 1. This also means the fuel has to be vapourised to mix with the air. So, if the electrics are covered by fuel, there is no chance of combustion. Most modern cars also pass the fuel through the motor in the fuel pump to keep it cool. Some even have the fuel pump in the petrol tank itself. FYI, different fuels and gasses have different ranges whereby they can combust. Hydrogen has a very wide range so it is the most dangerous to handle. Petrol is relatively narrow, making it harder to ignite. There are tables available showing the range of ignitability. Also, if you limit the voltage & current of the signal to certain levels, the possibility of a spark can be considered remote. This is termed 'intrinsic safety'. There are standards that cover this technique. |
