If you really need this, I think you need to discuss with the supplier about getting custom software written for you.

I somehow doubt that the supplier will be keen to allow you to modify their code yourself:

  • Supporting your own products in the field is one thing, but supporting products where inexperienced 3rd parties have fiddled with the software would be an absolute nightmare!

  • Supporting developers making changes to your code is completely different from supporting customers using your standard products!
