Hi Kai,
It used to be a practice of using plastic or cloth bands to restrict the patient movements. Now the thinking is changing towards respecting their feelings, etc. However the bands are still used for violent and unpredictable patients. As mentioned in my previous post, the sensor should be hidden from the patient, say to be placed under the sheets. And it should be cheap as these homes are run on charities to some extent. In the prototype I placed two pads one at the waist and other below the thighs. This way it allowed free movement (tossing around) without any false alarms. Another requirement is that the alert should give reasonable time for the care giver to react. regards, |
