#113122 - simulator vs emulator Responding to: ???'s previous message |
My bad; in software world I'm used to the terms 'simulator' and 'emulator' to mean pretty much the same thing, except that 'emulator' is closer to the real thing.
For instance, some device 'simulators' only expose the same APIs but run on completely different hardware, while 'emulators' try to simulate the hardware as well. Or, as webster puts it, "emulator - hardware or software that permits programs written for one computer to be run on another usually newer computer". I've never actually considered the concept of a hardware emulator =) As a programmer, to me, that's already the "real thing". |
