#103191 - Timing and Tinning
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Hi Ashwin, we need some practice and patience over using the art paper.

To avoid:

But I must say it takes 3 or 4 tries before I get a perfect trace.

1. Try the blackest setting and dpi on the laser printer. This ensures more toner per track.

2. Pressure is more important than heat for this paper. Try giving up more pressure.

3. Dont press the pcb using iron box in all the ways. Try giving similar and multiple strokes in the same direction, else the toner will smudge.

4. Atleast for 10 mins, soak the pcb+paper after ironing. Dont simply drench the pcb and then peeling. Paper must get disintegrated so that the tracks are intact.

5. Once again, patience and practice are the keys !!

I love this method since this completes a 6"x4" pcb proto within Rs. 30 !!

Have you ever tried tinning your pcb to prevent the copper from getting oxidised. I have enquired a lot for those solutions but no one seems to know anything about it. Please do let me know if you find anything near your place to get the job done.

Yeah, I have given the lead coating or 'tinning' as you call. But the problem is, for prototype works, my pcb fabricator charges a lot for tinning. What I normally do is, after the etching process, I will give a coating of solder lead using a flat tipped soldering iron. The results are very fine for me.

Cheers,
Vignesh
